Sarah Ferguson Says Princess Diana Would Have Adored Meghan Markle And Kate Middleton
Sarah Ferguson is opening up about the late Princess Diana and how she would have viewed her son's lives today.
In a new cover story for People, the Duchess of York (who is the mother of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie) reminisced about her friendship with the Princess of Wales and what she would have thought about her sons wives. Prince William married his college sweetheart, Kate Middleton, in 2011, while Prince Harry married then American actress Meghan Markle in 2018.
'If she were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, "I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen",' Ferguson said about the duchesses. 'Because each has got her own voice.'
She continued, expressing that Diana also would have loved being a grandmother. William and Kate share three children together—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—while Harry and Meghan have two kids—Archie Harrison and Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
'She would be very proud of her sons and their wives. And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren. Because that's what she loved,' Ferguson added. The princess 'adored my girls. She adored the boys. This would be her haven. Her heaven'.
William and Harry reunited earlier this month to honour their mother with a commemorative statue of her likeness at the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday. The two brothers released a joint statement expressing the importance of keeping their mother's memory alive.
'Today, on what would have been our Mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character—qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better," the statement from the two princes read. "Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy,' they continued. 'Thank you to Ian Rank-Broadley, Pip Morrison and their teams for their outstanding work, to the friends and donors who helped make this happen, and to all those around the world who keep our mother's memory alive.'
