Sarah Jessica Parker Was Fired from Two Animated Movies

From Harper's BAZAAR

Even glorious successful humans like Sarah Jessica Parker hit career snags sometimes. Case in point: In an interview with Howard Stern, Parker recalled being fired from not just one but two animated films-and TBH, she still doesn't seem 100% over it.

Of course, SJP didn't just launch into a rant about being given the pink slip from Antz (because yes, Antz is one of the movies she was fired from). She started with a story about her time working with Philip Seymour Hoffman on State and Main. When it came time for the weekend, they'd promise to see each other at work again the following week and SJP would add a quick "unless I'm fired." Anyone who has ever irrationally feared that their job was in jeopardy can surely relate.

This prompted Stern to ask if Parker had ever actually been fired from a movie and she quickly copped to being let go from Antz (1998) and Home on the Range (2004). Though, as MovieFone points out, she couldn't have been too torn up about Home on the Range since she mistakenly called it "At Close Range" during the interview.

"Apparently I was a bad ant," Parker explained. "I can't remember which movie fired me first. The first time they were like, 'We're going in a different direction.' Which I had always heard, like, as a joke. And that one was a cow. Wasn't 'At Close Range' the cows?"

And lest you think that the filmmakers just quickly realized their mistake in casting Parker, she would like to make it clear that was not the case.

"By the way, just please know I did many sessions for both of these movies," she added.

Parker noted that the filmmakers went in an entirely different direction for Antz, casting Sharon Stone, who has a famously deep, sultry voice.

And what is it like to be fired from a Hollywood movie? Not fun. Just like it's not fun to be fired from any job, but especially one that you thought you were doing good work at.

"What was upsetting was that they even called me the week before they fired me, they called me to tell me how great I was," she said. "Which I felt was a set-up, but I think they meant it at that time."

Ouch.
