Glee, American Crime Story, Pose: Ryan Murphy gave us all of that. But rather than invent another sensation from scratch, he's taking cues from a time-honored classic for his next show.

Ratched will provide an origin story for Nurse Ratched, the murderous nurse from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Starting in 1947, the series will "follow her deadly progression through the mental health-care system," and hopefully shed some light on a wholly unsympathetic character.

Here's everything we know so far about the forthcoming Netflix show.

First-look photos have finally landed.

At long last, viewers are getting a peek at Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, Sarah Paulson, and more in character. Also, there's a monkey. Check out all the images below.

The cast is stacked.

We've known for some time that longtime Ryan Murphy collaborator Sarah Paulson would star as a younger version of the villainous Nurse Ratched. (Murphy and Paulson in a mental institution is giving us serious American Horror Story: Asylum vibes, and we're all for it.)

In an Instagram post last year, Ryan Murphy announced the rest of the star-studded ensemble. Fresh off of her gubernatorial run, Cynthia Nixon has signed on to the series, as has Sharon Stone, Judy Davis, Corey Stoll, Amanda Plummer, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, and Finn Wittrock.

As Murphy says, it's "a true murderers’ row of talent."

There might be some tie-ins to the classic movie.

Michael Douglas, who produced 1975's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, has been tapped to executive produce Ratched—so we can expect some continuity, at the very least.

It'll debut this fall.

Netflix has announced the premiere date for the eight-episode season: Friday, September 18. Might as well block off that weekend now.

There will definitely be a second season.

Netflix gave the show a two-season order back in 2017, so Ratched is already secured for another run.
