Say hello to Circular denim: Frank and Oak's newest collection that's made from recycled fabric

Frank and Oak is known for their commitment to sustainable manufacturing and ethical business practices, and today they’re taking it one step further with the launch of their new Circular denim collection. Made from discarded fabrics that are respun into new yarns, the process starts by collecting worn-out jeans and sending them to a fabric recycler.

The denim is then broken down, and the old cotton fibres are separated from other materials like polyester and Lycra to be turned into new articles of clothing. Before becoming new pairs of jeans, though, the recycled cotton is combined with virgin fibres to create a stronger yarn than would otherwise be created with 100 per cent recycled material.

Typically 10 per cent to 20 per cent of the recycled fibres make their way into the new fabric, and once the yarn is woven together it’s virtually indistinguishable from regular denim. On top of reducing waste and chemical usage to produce new fabric, each pair of jeans made from recycled fibres saves up to 500 litres of water compared to traditional denim manufacturing.
