From Town & Country

On Monday evening, the American Ballet Theatre kicked off its spring season with its annual gala performance and dinner. Black-tie-clad guests, including Blake Lively, Katie Holmes, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, and Oscar de la Renta's Fernando Garcia, filled the Metropolitan Opera House as Caroline Kennedy, the evening's honorary chair, presented Blackstone president and ABT Chairman Emeritus Hamilton "Tony" James with an award recognizing his longstanding patronage of the arts.

The New York premiere of Whipped Cream, a whimsical, sugar high-inducing Viennese ballet, followed with choreography by Alexei Ratmansky and set design and costumes by the surrealist pop visionary Mark Ryden. After curtain call, guests filtered next door to the David H. Koch Theater for an Austrian-themed dinner, dancing, and to toast the ABT's new, very sweet fundraising record - $3.4 million.
