Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin shoves OL coach Tom Cable on sideline

The Seattle Seahawks operate in chaos and perhaps more than any other team, they thrive on that chaos.

If any other team had a star receiver shove an offensive line coach as his unit continuously failed to block well enough, it would be a shocking moment. With the Seahawks, it’s more like standard operating procedure.

Still, it’s probably not ideal. With the Seahawks struggling to get anything done on offense in the first half against the New York Giants and Seattle trailing 7-0, a heated exchange between Doug Baldwin and other offensive members got a little physical when Baldwin shoved offensive line coach Tom Cable. Head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Russell Wilson were in the middle trying to diffuse the situation.

It’s worth noting that Cable punched a defensive assistant with the Oakland Raiders and broke his jaw in 2009. It’s also worth noting that Baldwin had an altercation with Percy Harvin a few years ago. There aren’t many wallflowers on the Seahawks.

Additionally, and most important, it’s common for tensions to run high on an NFL sideline and sometimes get a little out of hand. It’s often no big deal. It’s why Ben Roethlisberger’s overreaction to Antonio Brown’s sideline tantrum a few weeks ago was strange. This stuff happens. And as Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times noted, everything was fine with Baldwin and Cable before halftime.

The fact that this Seahawks dust-up on the sideline ended amicably in a few minutes makes it even less of a big deal for that team. Especially since the team recovered from a sluggish start to cruise past the Giants, 24-7.

It’s not a great look to have a receiver pushing an offensive line coach, especially as the offensive line for the Seahawks has been under constant criticism, but the Seahawks will shrug and move along, and the same thing will happen the next time they’re battling themselves on the sideline.
