A Secluded Home on a Private New York Island Could Be Yours for $1.5 Million
Tucked between the borders of northern New York State and southeastern Canada, amid a 50-mile stretch along the St. Lawrence River, the picturesque Thousand Islands region has long been a popular getaway for the rich and famous—think the Boldt, Singer, Kellogg, Wrigley, and Trudeau families, as well as prime ministers and presidents, internationally renowned authors and poets, and even musicians and NHL stars, just to name a few. Now one of the archipelago’s actual 1,864 islands known as St. Mary’s is seeking to attract its next denizen with a castle-inspired home that just popped up for sale at $1.5 million.
Built 35 years ago by a N.Y.C. family as a contemporary homage to Boldt Castle—a six-story, 120-room dream home-turned-tourist attraction on nearby Heart Island that millionaire hotelier George Boldt originally designed in 1900 for his wife Louise but never finished—the striking wood-sided structure is secluded amid a private enclave spanning less a third of an acre and accessible only by boat or seaplane, hence its floating deep-water dock that’s able to accommodate vessels of myriad sizes.

Once inside, three bedrooms and two baths are filtered across almost 3,000 square feet of wood-clad living space on two levels, which is highlighted by an open-concept great room containing a spacious living area that has sliding glass doors leading out to a wraparound porch, plus a dining room and a kitchen outfitted with an expansive eat-in island.
Elsewhere in the house are two main-level guest bedrooms that share a full bath, as well as a floating staircase that heads to an upstairs primary suite boasting sweeping water views and a bath equipped with a built-in spa tub and a standalone shower. Per the listing held by Joshua Garner and Mike Fabbri of The Agency, there’s also a bonus loft space topped by a cathedral ceiling that provides “additional living space, a quiet nook for relaxation, and the opportunity for additional bedrooms as needed.”
Rounding it all out is a reliable power grid that’s connected to the home via an underwater power line and an endless supply of fresh water coming directly from the river. High-speed wireless internet is also available, not to mention a vast array of outdoor activities ranging from scuba diving to kayaking.
