You need to see how long Meghan Markle's hair got during lockdown

First things first: Meghan Markle's hair growth is by FAR the least important thing about her speech at Virtual 2020 Girl Up Leadership Summit yesterday. It was her first public appearance in a while, and she was notably referred to using her maiden name (power move, love it).

Since resigning from royal duties with Prince Harry, she has been able to take more of an active role in speaking about her support for racial equality and the Black Lives Matter movement, and it's something we're absolutely living for - long may it continue.

So, before we get to chatting about her rapunzelesque lengths gained over lockdown and the new styles she's experimenting with these days, I'd like to take a moment to urge you to head over to here, where you can read a break-down of some of the powerful and passionate words she shared on the topic of racial injustice and gender inequality. My favourite quote is this:

"Those in the halls and corridors and places of power—from lawmakers to world leaders to executives—all of those people, they depend on you more than you will ever depend on them. And here’s the thing: They know this."

After the world digested Meghan's incredible 10-minute long address, the compliments began to roll in from Meghan devotees, swooning over her ever-amazing hair, which seems to have grown inches upon inches while hair salons remained closed on lockdown.

While Kate Middleton spent the past few months getting nifty with the hair scissors, if Meghan's lengths are anything to go by, she's steered clear of trims all together.

Protocol usually demands that members of the royal family stick to strict rules when it comes to grooming, particularly that hair and makeup must be 'neat', 'natural'. Of course, those are pretty subjective terms - natural means something different to everyone, especially depending on the person's default hair texture.

But it has meant that in the past, Meghan has mostly opted for shiny blow-dries and bouncy brushed-out curls with one or both sides tucked behind an ear, smooth buns and low ponytails.

If her most recent appearance is anything to go by, however, it looks like Meghan is fully leaning into the freedom that comes with stepping down from her duties in more ways than one. Her hair was flowing, shorter pieces framing her face without being pinned back, and paired with a gorgeous deep smokey eye that, again, would have been a rare sight during her royal career. Whether she's sending us signals through her beauty choices, or just having a grand old time relaxing into her new post-royal status, we're here for it.

I, for one, can't wait to see what's next from Meghan - for both her flowing locks and her mission to fight injustice.

What a legend.
