Seinfeld's David Puddy wipes out on Devils' bench

How can you not love Patrick Warburton?

The 54-year-old has made quite the career for himself on the big screen and as a hilarious voice actor. He may never be able to escape one of the most charismatic characters from early in his career, though. The one and only David Puddy.

Elaine Benes’ on-again, off-again boyfriend in Seinfeld is easily the most passionate New Jersey Devils fan to ever walk the Earth. Wearing his Martin Brodeur jersey and plenty of facepaint, nobody supports their team quite like Puddy.

Due to the cultural significance of the show, Warburton shows up to Devils game from time to time as his iconic 90’s character.

With the team celebrating the 90’s against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Prudential Center on Tuesday night, Warburton was the the evening’s star attraction. Dressed as Puddy and embodying the character once again, he dropped the puck for the opening ceremonial faceoff and yelled ‘THE DEVILS!’ on multiple occasions (as expected).

While all of that went well, his exit did not.

Thankfully, except for maybe a light bruising of his ego, he was alright. This really couldn’t have happened to a better guy, though.

Instead of accepting an appearance fee, Warburton asked the organization to donate to St. Jude’s Research Hospital. The Devils obliged and decided to give $25,000 to the paediatric treatment and research facility, according to northjersey.com.

“When does a guy in his early 50s not want to don the face paint and just be as big of a ridiculous goof as he can?” he said Tuesday afternoon, well before the stumble.

At the very least, he should be able to rest easy knowing that things didn’t go nearly as bad as Caroline Marcil’s on-ice experience in 2004.
