Selena Gomez Just Ended the Search for the Perfect Mascara

Say goodbye to your falsies

Following in the footsteps of celebs like Lady Gaga and Rihanna, Selena Gomez is the latest star to launch her own beauty brand. Her new company, Rare Beauty, dropped at Sephora last week with creamy lip souffles, pigmented liquid eyeliners, and luminescent highlighters hitting both virtual and IRL shelves. But one product was noticeably missing from the lineup: mascara.

While Gomez hasn’t teased the launch of a mascara just yet — beyond promising Amy Schumer to create a clump-free option — the singer revealed the formula she uses for va-va-voom lashes. During a video segment on how to create the perfect cat-eye filmed for Vogue, Gomez gave a shout-out to Huda Beauty Legit Lashes Double-Ended Mascara.

Of course, the actress’ interest in beauty has always captured our attention, but her new status as a makeup mogul gives this recent selection extra weight. After all, the search to uncover the best mascara — one that lengthens and volumizes without clumping or flaking — is endless, so what better person to turn to than someone creating their own formulas?

Luckily, Gomez’s selection doesn’t disappoint. Huda’s signature mascara combines both a volumizing and lengthening mascara into one double-sided applicator. Both ends promise 12 hours of seamless, flake-free wear with a jet-black formula that effortlessly glides onto lashes and builds without clumping, but the similarities end there.

The volumizing end of the brush has tiny thickening fibers added to the mascara to build up volume. The addition gives visible length to lashes but doesn’t weigh them down. The curl and lengthening end skips these volumizing fibers in favor of a longer 5-millimeter option. This switch, along with gripping waxes, allows the mascara to give noticeable length to even the shortest lashes.

Layer both formulas together — starting with the lengthening side — to create a full look that rivals falsies. Or you can steal Huda’s hack and start by applying the volumizing end first for a more dramatic look. Either way you’ll end up with fluffy, full lashes that almost 400 other shoppers are equally obsessed with creating.

So even though we can’t wait to get Gomez’s own mascara one day, her current go-to will more than do. Shop it now.
