'I was just completely blindsided': Star opens up about pregnancy after miscarriage
Shay Mitchell is opening up about pregnancy after miscarriage.
The 32-year-old actress has launched the new YouTube series “Almost Ready,” chronicling her journey to motherhood. Last month, the “Pretty Little Liars” actress revealed she and her partner, former MuchMusic VJ Matte Babel, were expecting a child together after experiencing a miscarriage in 2018.

In the premiere episode of her series titled “Keeping a Secret” Mitchell shared how miscarrying greatly influenced her decision to hold off on announcing her pregnancy until she reached the six-month mark.

Through tears, Mitchell said that she has kept all the photos from her first pregnancy, but is unable to look at them.
“It’s not like I forgot about that happening,” she explained. “So of course I’m super happy, but I still feel for the one that I lost. I know other women and other friends of mine who’ve gone through a way harder journey. It’s just really tough because you feel broken, as a woman, and that’s not a great feeling.”
Despite learning they will soon be welcoming a daughter, Mitchell and Babel, who have been dating for three years, have yet to prepare a nursery.

“We haven’t touched one thing in here,” Mitchell said during a home tour. “Because of the miscarriage I just want to wait it out, I want to get to as late as possible and then I’ll do this.”
The actress, who recently appeared in the Netflix series “You,” admitted she feels like the pregnancy still isn’t “real” for Babel.
“He still has no idea. I think until that baby comes out and starts crying will it then hit him and then I feel like his role begins,” Mitchell said of her partner. “He’s going to be a great dad. He’s so good with kids. He’s just so comfortable. After the pregnancy, I don’t have a worry at all.”
