Strictly Come Dancing's head judge underwent her 2002 breast augmentation in an attempt to save her marriage to Corky Ballas, the dancer has divulged.

The revelation comes as Ballas is set to have her breast implants removed later this year amid cancer fears.

Ballas said she had her bust increased from a 32B to a 34DD when her 23-year marriage to Corky began to "unravel" as she discovered his "infidelities".

The 59-year-old told the Daily Mail: "It was only when he'd been seeing another girl in the States for three-and-a-half years and they got found out that he had to tell me. I thought: 'To save this, I need to make myself more attractive.'

She went on: "He said the affairs were just about sex. 'It's nothing to do with you. I love you,' he told me. But I never got a grip around that.

“That's when I got these. I thought I'd have this fantastic bust and everyone would look at me and think I was amazing.

"After the operation I did feel fantastic: I'd put a bra on and I had a cleavage."

Ballas and Corky, whom she shares one son Mark Ballas with, went on to divorce in 2007. Her first marriage was to dancer Sammy Stopford.

She's set to have her breast implants removed at the end of the month after being told by a healthcare professional during a mammogram that it might not always be possible to check for cancer behind the implants.

Ballas also learnt of the history of the disease in her family while filming for Who Do You Think You Are?.

Meanwhile, Ballas has shared with her fans that she's been hooked up to a vitamin drip after falling ill during a "tough week".
