'America's Got Talent' Is Returning to NBC This Summer

The return of NBC's America's Got Talent is not too far away.

This year will mark the 16th season of the popular talent show. As fans who tuned in last year can remember, season 15 was filled with several changes, many which stemmed from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Among them was the absence of head judge and executive producer Simon Cowell, 61, who was forced to temporarily leave the show after falling off his electric bike and breaking his back last August.

Following a five-hour surgery and months of recovery, Simon told People in February that he is feeling much better and is ready to get back to judging AGT this summer.

"I've got to be honest with you, it wasn't that bad actually breaking your back," he said to the outlet. "I mean, it wasn't great for three to four weeks but after that you get through it. I have to do so much exercise now. I actually feel better than I did before the accident."

Now that we know Simon is coming back to the show, here's more info we have about the upcoming season of AGT:

When does AGT season 16 start?

America's Got Talent will return for season 16 on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 on NBC. Throughout the rest of the summer, AGT will air on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET and will likely run until mid-September. GoldDerby.com reports that the live shows are scheduled to start in early August.

Who are the AGT judges of the new 2021 season?

On February 24, host Terry Crews confirmed on Twitter that he, Simon and the rest of last season's judges — Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofía Vergara — will all be returning for season 16.

"WE'RE BACK! So excited to announce that the gang's all back for the next season of #AGT," Terry tweeted alongside a picture of the judges.

What can fans expect from season 16 of AGT?

While much of season 15 was filmed virtually or away from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium due to the pandemic, season 16 is expected to be much more aligned with what fans are used to seeing from the show. What's more, the below sneak peek video makes it sound like AGT's "sweet 16" season will be particularly emotional.

"The overriding tone is that we got through it, and now doing this show means more than anything else," Simon explained in the above video.

"The whole world has a story, and we all overcame," Terry also added. "So it's almost like everyone deserves a Golden Buzzer."

Apart from that, Heidi also hinted that AGT may go on a temporary break during the summer while NBC shifts its focus over to the Tokyo Summer Olympics, which are scheduled to begin on Friday, July 23.

How can I watch or stream AGT season 16?

Those with access to NBC can watch AGT season 16 on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET this summer.

Other options include watching the talent competition series on Hulu, which offers first-time users a free 30-day trial. After that, a subscription starts at $5.99 per month. If you don't mind being a little behind, AGT episodes are also available to watch on NBC.com the next day.
