Simone Biles Says She Wouldn't Be 'Comfortable' Having Her Daughter Join USA Gymnastics

"It's just us."

Olympic and world champion Simone Biles said that she wouldn't be completely comfortable having her daughter following her gold-medal footsteps (and backflips). During an appearance on 60 Minutes, Biles said that there are still too many unanswered questions surrounding USA Gymnastics, the Olympic committee, and Olympic doctor Larry Nassar.

Back in 2018, Biles was one of the hundreds of athletes that came forward saying that they'd been abused by Nassar. He has since been convicted and has been sentenced to 175 years in prison. However, Biles contends that the story is far from over — and that's why she's hesitant to have her future children be a part of the program.

"Oh, it's far from over," Biles said. "There's still a lot of questions that still need to be answered. Just who knew what, when? [USA Gymnastics] have failed so many athletes, and most of us underage. You guys don't think that's a bigger problem?"

When the host asked her if she'd allow her future daughters to join USA Gymnastics, Biles didn't hold back.

"No," she said. "Because I don't feel comfortable enough, because they haven't taken accountability for their actions and what they've done. And they haven't ensured us that it's never going to happen again."

Biles continued, saying that the program had failed her and dozens of other athletes.

"We bring them medals. We do our part," Biles said. "You can't do your part in return? It's just, like, it's sickening."

Li Li Leung, CEO of USA Gymnastics, issued a statement to 60 Minutes, saying, "We recognize how deeply we have broken the trust of our athletes and community, and are working hard to build that trust back."
