Singer Keyshia admits she faked pregnancy news in response to being body-shamed — but some fans say she's insensitive

Last week the singer-songwriter told fans via Instagram that she was “preggo.” Cole, 36, already has an 8-year-old son with her ex-husband, former NBA star Daniel Gibson.

Good wishes poured in, but it didn’t take long for Cole to set the record straight: She was just “trolling” and isn’t actually pregnant. As she explained in a follow-up Instagram post, she had faked the pregnancy news as a response to body shamers who have picked apart her figure.

While many fans laughed it off and told her to ignore the body shaming, others felt that her pregnancy prank was insensitive, particularly to those who have struggled with infertility.
“I had a miscarriage and I’m upset at this myself,” read one comment. “People body-shamed her, but I wouldn’t post saying I was pregnant. She should’ve just ignored the haters. I’m praying for her though.”
“There’s a point to where it’s not ‘trolling,'” another commenter wrote. “There are women in the world who could only wish that they could have kids and you’re out here lying about being pregnant.”
“After having my stillborn I find this upsetting,” another person commented. “Pranks on pregnancy are inconsiderate.”
“Who jokes about being pregnant though?” chided another follower. “Grow up.”
Though many supporters defended Cole by insisting she was simply trying to make a point about the body-shaming scrutiny women deal with, she’s not the first celebrity to get backlash for making light of the pregnancy process.
Earlier this year Bachelor star Arie Luyendyk Jr. was called “cruel” for pretending that his fiancée, Lauren Burnham, was expecting.
