‘Sold out everywhere,’ her concert tour skipped Idaho. Now her supergroup will rock Boise

A band that Rolling Stone calls “the world’s most exciting indie-rock supergroup” is coming to Boise.

Critically acclaimed trio Boygenius will headline Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Outlaw Field. The group is composed of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus — “three generation-defining songwriters,” Rolling Stone recently wrote.

All three women are gifted solo artists with enthusiastic followings. But don’t be surprised if Bridgers fans show up in force. Four Grammy nominations and a slot supporting Taylor Swift this May in stadiums tend to have that effect.

It also won’t be shocking if Boygenius winds up being the third advance sellout so far this year for the Idaho Botanical Garden’s 4,000-capacity outdoor venue.

“Phoebe sold out everywhere last tour,” said Chris Moore, president of CMoore Concerts, which is promoting the Boygenius show.

Plus, the group’s full-length debut, “The Record,” which will be released Friday, is an “instant classic,” according to Rolling Stone — “even better than everyone had hoped.”

Tickets to the Boygenius concert will go on sale to the general public for $59 at noon Friday at Ticketmaster. Botanical Garden members, who will be able to purchase starting Wednesday, will pay $54. The concert’s special guest will be Illuminati Hotties.

Boygenius released a self-titled EP in 2018. And all three members of Boygenius have performed in Boise before. Lucy Dacus headlined at the Egyptian Theatre last November. Julien Baker gigged at the Idaho Botanical Garden last summer in a show that also featured Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen.

Bridgers’ “Reunion Tour” ran from late 2021 until early 2023, with sellout shows both in the United States and overseas. But it didn’t make a stop in Boise. “We tried, but she didn’t have enough dates available,” Moore said. “We almost had it confirmed.”

Bridgers has never headlined a show here. But she opened for the Violent Femmes at the Knitting Factory in 2016. And she visited the City of Trees at least once before that. In late 2015, Bridgers posted a Facebook photo of herself at the Record Exchange.
