Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Reflects on Prince Philip's Final Moments
On Friday, when the royal family confirmed the sad news that Prince Philip had passed away at the age of 99, they released a brief statement, which read:
It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

Now, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who is married to Prince Philip's youngest child, Prince Edward, has opened up a bit more about her father-in-law's final moments. Today, outside a private church service at Windsor Castle, Sophie shared that Prince Philip's passing was "very peaceful."
“It was right for him. It was so gentle,” she said. “It was just like somebody took him by the hand and off he went. Very, very peaceful and that’s all you want for somebody isn’t it?”
Her husband, Prince Edward also described his father's death as both "very, very sad," and "a bit of a shock," per ITV News.
"It’s been a bit of a shock. However much one tries to prepare oneself for something like this it’s still a dreadful shock. And we’re still trying to come to terms with that. And it’s very, very sad," he said.
"But I have to say that the extraordinary tribute and the memories that everybody has had and been willing to share has been so fantastic. And it just goes to show, he might have been our father, grandfather, father-in-law, but he meant so much to so many other people."
Prince Philip will receive a ceremonial funeral, which will adhere to COVID-related health and safety requirements, later this month.
