The Earl and Countess of Wessex enjoyed a rare public outing together with their children Lady Louise Windsor, 15, and James Viscount Severn, 11 on Tuesday.

Prince Edward, 55, and Sophie, 54, had a family day out at Bear Wood at Wild Place Project in Bristol.

While their parents are working royals, Lady Louise and James have largely been kept out of spotlight, except for formal occasions, such as Trooping the Colour and royal weddings.

The youngsters, who are now on their school holidays, beamed as they fed the giraffes and toasted marshmallows.

Edward is patron of the Bristol Zoological Society and the Wessexes previously enjoyed a visit to the zoo in 2016.

Sophie kept her cool in a ARoss Girl’s ‘Brooke’ polka dot cotton midi dress (which has sold out) with a pair of white espadrille wedges. The brand was created by Harper’s Bazaar’s former market director Amanda Ross.

Her teenage daughter Lady Louise wore a white blouse and a pink floral skirt, while her son James looked smart, like his dad, in a navy blazer, shirt and trousers.

The siblings had starring roles as special attendants at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding in October 2018.

They led the troop of bridesmaids and page boys (which included Prince George and Princess Charlotte) into the ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on June 19.

When the couple had their first child Lady Louise in 2003, she would have been entitled to be styled as Her Royal Highness Princess Louise of Wessex, as she is a child of one of the monarch’s sons.

However after the marriage, it was announced that their children would be styled as the children of an earl, rather than as prince or princess. Lady Louise and James also use the surname Mountbatten-Windsor because they do not use the titles HRH Prince or Princess.

Lady Louise attends St. Mary’s School in Ascot and is an accomplished equestrian, who took part in the Private Driving Singles carriage drive at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May. She is currently 13th in line to the throne.

James, Viscount Severn is currently at St George's School, Windsor Castle. He is currently 12th in line to the throne.
