From Meghan Markle‘s fairytale-inspired Givenchy gown to the couple’s first kiss on the steps of St George’s Chapel, the royal wedding was a tearjerking affair to say the least.

But you might not want to put away your tissues just yet.

In a touching gesture, Prince William seemingly left a spare seat beside him in the chapel for their late mother, Princess Diana. It was widely speculated that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also left a spare seat for her on their big day back in April 2011.

Eagle-eyed media users took to Twitter to point out the sentimental move, as one wrote: “I’m not crying, you’re crying.”

While another tweeted, “The empty seat for Princess Diana next to William broke me.”

But it’s not the only way in which Diana has been remembered today.

Meghan’s spring bouquet featured her favourite flowers, Forget-Me-Nots, amongst scented sweet peas and sprigs of myrtle. While Diana’s sister, Lady Jane Spencer, gave a touching reading at the ceremony.

The extract from the King of Solomon read, “My beloved speaks and says to me: ‘Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away; for now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone’.”

She continued: “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, passion fierce as the grave.”
