'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker': Harrison Ford, Oscar Isaac and more stars arrive at world premiere

Forty-plus years after the 1977 debut of "Star Wars," the Skywalker saga is coming to an end.

And while we're all excited and emotional about "Rise of Skywalker," it should come as no surprise that perhaps the most excited and emotional fan is a Skywalker himself: Mark Hamill, 68, was in his element on Monday night at the film's (literally) starry premiere. (The walls and ceilings were appropriately dotted with intergalactic imagery.) The actor was all smiles alongside his co-stars and his wife, Marilou, whom he wed just one year after "Star Wars" first hit theaters.

Fans weren't sure if fellow original trilogy star Harrison Ford, 77, would stop by given that his character is no longer, ahem, active — but in fact he did, gamely posing for the paparazzi at the TCL Chinese Theatre.

Absent, however, from the premiere festivities was "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, who relinquished most of his control upon selling the intellectual property to Disney. Lucas reportedly had some involvement in the shaping of "Rise of Skywalker," but he was not a driving creative force for Episodes 7 or 8.

To that end, also unable to make the premiere was Rian Johnson, who directed Episode 8, "The Last Jedi." Social media indicates he's currently across the country in New York promoting his Oscar-buzzy film "Knives Out."

J.J. Abrams directed Episodes 7 and 9, and fans have waited patiently to see if and how he will re-orient "Rise of Skywalker" to align with his original vision. He's acknowledged that some of Johnson's story decisions added unexpected challenges for crafting the final chapter.

The franchise's newer stars looked dapper as ever: Daisy Ridley donned a scarlet Oscar de la Renta gown with an up-to-there slit while John Boyega opted for a sky blue suit. Oscar Isaac kept things classic in a dark suit and tie. Keri Russell, a "Rise of Skywalker" cast addition, wore a voluminous mini dress and a black Mark Cross clutch.

Among the other famous faces in attendance were Steven Spielberg, Danny DeVito and "Property Brothers" star Jonathan Scott with girlfriend Zooey Deschanel. See more in the gallery above.
