These Are the States Getting a White Christmas This Year
Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? If you live in one of these lucky regions across the lower 48, you may get your holiday wish this year.
Based on forecast predictions from The Weather Channel, residents in several states will wake up to at least an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas morning. Parts of the Northwest, Midwest, Northeast, and even a small section of the South can expect a wintery white holiday.

A stretch of the Northeast from Maine through Pennsylvania can expect some snowfall, along with a few states around the Great Lakes, and a cluster in the Northwest, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and down through Denver. Locals in the Appalachian mountain region of Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and even a small section of North Carolina may also see some snowflakes come Christmas day.
Those hoping for a winter wonderland should also take into consideration historical holiday weather trends from the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA). According to their data, several towns across the North of the United States have nearly a 100 percent chance of experiencing a white Christmas, including areas near the Canadian border, Rocky Mountains, and Sierra Nevadas, with nearby regions having a 50 percent chance or more for snowfall on the holiday.
During a typical winter, 38 percent of the continental U.S. sees snow on Christmas day. And considering just how much winter weather the country has already experienced (all 50 states have seen snow this past November and December), we're betting on a widespread white Christmas this year.
