On a gloomy and rainy morning, there’s nothing worse than showing up to the office in an outfit that’s ill-equipped for wet weather. Whether it’s a pair of boots that doesn’t keep your feet dry, or a jacket you thought was waterproof that turns out not to be, the right rain gear can play a huge part in your mood for the day.

We’re no strangers to the challenges of commuting at the Yahoo Canada office, and after much discussion we came to the general consensus that it’s incredibly difficult to find affordable, high quality gear that stands up to wet weather throughout the fall in Canada. Although I’m still on the hunt for the perfect rain boots, luckily I’ve managed to solve half the puzzle with a rain jacket that holds up to its name.

Two years ago I bought my Women’s Venture 2 Jacket from The North Face before a trip to Iceland, since the country is known for their notoriously unpredictable weather and I needed a coat that was waterproof, lightweight, and could easily fit into my single carry-on duffle.

At $150, it was more than I had spent on a raincoat before, but I was willing to give it a shot. Since then, I can safely say that the Venture 2 Jacket definitely lived up to its 4.7 star rating on nearly 2,900 reviews.

I stayed dry, warm, and could stow away the jacket inside my bag any time I needed to. I also brought it along to layer over a lightweight puffer for days when I needed protection from the wind, rain and cold, and continue to do so even when I’m not travelling.

In addition to keeping me warm and dry, the Venture 2 Jacket also holds up to one major complaint that made its way around the office - rain jackets that hold in too much heat. To combat this issue, there are two zippers under the armpits for added ventilation so you’ll never have to deal with that sticky feeling that comes with many waterproof raincoats.

“Great jacket in a great colour that has nice ventilation under the arms which I need in a humid rainy day,” one reviewer shared. “Love how the water beads off of it!”

Another great feature about the Venture 2 Jacket is that it comes with a lifetime guarantee, so in case any issues come up you can send it back to The North Face at any time, which definitely helps with the $150 price tag.

Several reviewers have even shared their experiences dealing with customer service, with one writing, “Love this jacket! I had one for years and the lining started coming off, so I sent it back and ended up with this one. North Face warranty is the best!”

The only potential downside is that this jacket does have a shorter length, so if you’re a fan of longer raincoats you may want to check out the City Breeze Rain Trench for extra coverage.

Available in sizes XS to 3XL and in a range of fun colours, this is one jacket that you’ll have to try to believe.
