Stephen Colbert’s emotional plea for Republicans to stop Trump following presser

Viewers saw a different open to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert than they’re used to Thursday night. Colbert recorded soon after President Trump held a press conference in which he made baseless claims about widespread voter fraud as Joe Biden continued to make major gains in key battleground states, and claimed victory in those states despite the fact that votes are still being counted. Colbert was standing because he said he wasn’t ready to sit down yet after watching the press conference, and he had to stop to compose himself while describing what he’d just witnessed. Colbert said this proved Trump is a fascist, and pleaded for Republicans to speak out against the president. Very few Republicans have rebuked Trump’s claims, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declined to comment on it. Colbert warned others that the American people will remember who stayed silent.
