Stormy Daniels Speaks Out After Getting Arrested at an Ohio Strip Club
Stormy Daniels, the adult actress who has said she had an affair with Donald Trump before he became president and was paid to keep quiet, was arrested Wednesday night at a strip club in Columbus, Ohio, the New York Times reports. Now, she has spoken out for the first time in a statement through her lawyer.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, posted bail and was released Thursday morning, CNN reports. Two other people were arrested at the club, but it is unclear who they were. She was arrested for allegedly touching patrons during her performance, which is illegal in Ohio for nude or seminude performers; police say some of the patrons she allegedly touched were detectives. But her lawyer told NBC News the detectives were undercover vice agents who arrested her after she was touched on stage in a non-sexual manner.
She was set to perform at the club again Thursday night, but had to cancel her performance. Daniels hasn’t posted anything on her own social media pages yet, but released a statement Thursday morning through her lawyer, Michael Avenatti. “As a result of what happened last night, I will unfortunately be unable to go forward with tonight’s scheduled performance,” her statement reads. “I deeply apologize to my fans in Columbus.”

Avenatti also shared the news of Daniels’ arrest early Thursday morning. “This was a setup and politically motivated,” he wrote on Twitter. “It reeks of desperation. We will fight all bogus charges.” He said Daniels was simply performing her normal routine, and will plead not guilty to misdemeanor charges against her. She is due in court on Friday.

She was arrested for allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a non sexual manner! Are you kidding me? They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this? There has to be higher priorities!!! #SetUp #Basta

We expect her to be released on bail shortly. We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing “touching.” We will vehemently contest all charges. #Basta

My client @StormyDaniels will issue a plea of “Not Guilty” to the three misdemeanor charges.
