Succession star Brian Cox has admitted that his TV alter ego Logan Roy would hate him if the two were ever to meet.

The Dundee-born actor has become one of the best known TV personalities around the world for his starring role as the all powerful media magnate in the HBO/Sky Atlantic drama series in the last four years.

But while Cox revealed that he genuinely loves the fictional Succession villain, he’s pretty sure the feeling would not be mutual.

He said: “I love Logan, you can’t not. What I love about Logan is self-made unlike Trump or Murdoch or Conrad Black, he did it all himself, he’s a self-made man. I have enormous respect for Logan, people misunderstand him.

“I’ve grown to have this enormous respect for him even though he is the antithesis of who I am, and the one thing we have in common is a deep disappointment with the human experiment. That’s what we have in common.

“But I’m an optimist, I think things will get better. Logan is not an optimist. Logan would hate (me), he would find me tiresome and boring and go ‘I wish that f*****g Cox would just shut the f*** up.”

The Manhunter, X-Men 2 and Troy star has been one of Britain's busiest film, stage and television stars for decades. But it was winning the part of the controversial magnate in the HBO series that made him one of the best known names in the industry, with awards including the prestigious Golden Globe for Best Actor in 2019.

Speaking to a packed crowd for a special In Conversation event at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Cox did add that playing the role has had another major impact on his life - his language.

Cox said: “He is foul-mouthed and he has affected me in that way, I never used to swear as much as I do now.”

The 76 year old also revealed he plans to make his directorial debut by stepping behind the camera for the first time for a new drama set around a Scotch whisky.

He hopes to shoot Glenrothan, a film about estranged brothers reuniting over their family-run distillery, in Scotland once everything is in place.

He admitted: “It’s been a long process, but we’re hoping all being good, to shoot it next year. It’s about coming home and I can only describe it as The Quiet Man meets Local Hero.
