Kelly Slater is widely considered the best surfer to ever live, a pioneer of the sport who has dominated competitive surfing en route to 11 world titles throughout his career.

The 46-year-old added to his legend on Sunday at the Pipe Masters in Hawaii, pulling off a move that left even himself in awe.

Slater falls off board, still finishes ride

While surfing a barrel, Slater lost his board, recovered to grab it in mid-air and eventually stood back up to finish his run.

Slater impressed with himself

When he exited the barrel, he held his arms up by his side as if he couldn’t even believe what he had just pulled off.

“Well, that was interesting,” Slater told Surfer Today. “I thought I just fell straight onto my belly and body boarded out. I didn’t realize I had to grab for it.”

Surfer Today notes Slater pulled off the run on one of the most difficult waves in the world, earning the moniker “Houdini tube ride” for the move.

At 46 years old, Slater is still adding new tricks to the sport.
