Luke Bryan told Kenedi, “You might be the biggest star we’ve ever seen,” while Lionel Richie declared her “the next big thing in the music business.”  Meanwhile, Katy Perry proclaimed the 17-year-old was “born to be a star,” before the judges handed Kenedi secured one of three highly-coveted platinum tickets – a new twist for Idol's 20th anniversary season, which fast tracks  a “best of the best” contestant straight past the first round of Hollywood Week. From the first note, Katy was stunned by Kenedi’s sheer lung power and passionate delivery, breaking into a broad Cheshire Cat grin. Katy later jokingly offered to be the golden girl’s manager and producer and declared herself a “Keni Kat,” before dramatically whining, “I’m feeling threatened! They are younger, they’re skinnier, they’re prettier… they sing really good! Siri, make an appointment at the plastic surgeon!”

    For the first time in American Idol history, it was a Coldplay-themed night as the top seven each took the stage adding their own touch to one of the rock band's classics. However, it was former Season 18 runner-up Arthur Gunn's performance that had some viewers not so happy, and even Coldplay's Chris Martin subtly throwing shade. "Funny enough I always thought the mlody was the best bit and that's the bit you've thrown away," said Martin. Gunn is known for putting his own spin on his covers. However, after changing the entire melody and some of the words to Coldplay's 2002 lead single "In My Place," it was hardly recognizable. Some viewers didn't like Gunn's rendition and even went so far as to say that it was "disrespectful." Gunn has also been the center of some controversy among viewers in recent weeks, after being voted into this Season 19 during the show's first-ever "Comeback" twist. Following his performance, judge Katy Perry also low-key expressed that it wasn't her favorite rendition, when she told Gunn, "One thing to know about artists, we're very stubborn. I think Chris was saying it kindly – like, the best part of that song is the melody. But of course, you are Arthur Gunn, and you do it your way. … But sometimes it is about playing along just a little bit. Because I did want to sing along with you, Arthur, but I didn't know that melody." Ultimately, Gunn was eliminated from the competition, as well as Hunter Metts, when the top five were announced at the end of the night.

    On American Idol Sunday night, the remaining 12 contestants each performed for a spot in the top 10 moving into next week. While multiple contestants had the judges using the word "frontrunner," one contestant, Hunter Metts, wasn't having as easy of a night. Throughout the season thus far, Hunter has struggled with his nerves. Even though mentor Bobby Bones tried to help Hunter build his confidence during rehearsals, his little flub at the very end of his performance got the best of him. "I know you're upset. But that happens in a live performance. They're going to tell you it's happened to them before," host Ryan Seacrest told Hunter. Hunter was extremely upset, so judge Katy Perry immediately began to console him. "Hunter, that was the best performance you've ever given," said Katy. "Perfection is an illusion. It's an illusion. It doesn't matter. That shows that you are human and vulnerable. And everybody relates to that. And it's amazing. It's emotion, that's what music is. It's a lot of pressure, but it's not about perfection, it's about resonating with people, and you just did." Katy also added, "Hunter, you connected with us. You kept your eyes and heart open. You were so connected that you forgot where you were. And that is perfect." “I don't even know what happened at the end, but listen -- I didn't care. You did no wrong. You could do no wrong in that moment,” said Luke Bryan, even stating that despite the flub, this was Hunter’s best performance to date. Lionel Richie attempted to defuse the situation by sharing his own amusing and in retrospect iconic concert horror stories about forgetting the lyrics to “Hello” or falling off the stage. But poor, self-flagellating Hunter still seemed inconsolable. “Hunter, what is going through your mind right now?” host Ryan Seacrest asked him, to which he replied with a pained expression and frog-lumped throat, “I just wish I didn't mess up.” Sunday night's Idol was also this season's first live coast-to-coast show with real time voting and while Hunter fell in the bottom four, ultimately, he secured that final spot of the night.

I had to come out first for y’all do that sitcom.”Dakota Johnson: When DeGeneres asked the “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress why she wasn’t invited to her celeb-studded 30th birthday party, Johnson said, “Actually no. That’s not the truth, Ellen. You were invited… Last time I was on the show last year, you gave me a bunch of s— about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited. I didn’t even know you liked me!” Caught off guard, DeGeneres insisted, “Of course I like you,” followed by some rather awkward silence. Timberlake said she sang the line, “Just electric, just electric, just electric” when, he said, “It pretty clearly says ‘just imagine.'” Appearing to be a little embarrassed, DeGeneres asked the audience to back her up. “I don’t think anyone raised their hand,” he grinned.Hasan Minhaj: Within a minute of sitting down with DeGeneres, the stand-up comedian and political commentator best known for his Netflix show “Patriot Act” corrected her pronunciation of his name. “At Starbucks, I just go by Timothée Chalamet,” he said.Blake Shelton: When “The Voice” judge appeared on “Ellen,” she told the story of how she gave Jennifer Lopez a clock with a photo of her and A-Rod kissing on it, so she could remind him “the clock is ticking, time is passing,” as an incentive for them to get engaged. And a week later he proposed. Well, DeGeneres gave Shelton a similar clock with him and Gwen Stefani on it. You’re making me blush, dude.”Taylor Swift: The “Cardigan” singer’s love life is frequently the topic of the tabloid, and DeGeneres pretty much jumped on that bandwagon during one stop Swift made on the show. When Swift declined to answer, the host put up a series of photos of Swift with different guys, handed her a bell and said if the guy was someone she dated, ring the bell. Photos of Swift with everyone from John Mayer to Danny DeVito popped up, prompting Swift to beg that DeGeneres stop. “This makes me feel so bad about myself,” she said. “Every time I come up here, you put like a different dude up there on the screen, and it just really makes me question what I stand for as a human being.”Mark Ruffalo: A photo of DeGeneres attending a football game with former president George W. Bush and her defense of their friendship started a firestorm on social media. “Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean I’m not going to be friends with them,” she said.
