At a first glance, Sophia Hadjipanteli looks like your typical model. She’s blonde, beautiful and has great eyebrows.Look a little closer and you’ll see she has a full on unibrow, replacing Frida Kahlo as the icon for strong-browed women.Sophia’s unique look has racked up almost 60,000 followers on Instagram. And though many praise her for showing a different view of beauty, there are a few that love to tell the model how unattractive a monobrow really is.For every ‘ugly’ comment, Sophia is aiming to hit back by kickstarting the #UnibrowMovement: a hashtag that she hopes will “normalise [things] that society pressures us to hide or fix. I want to encourage tolerance of others, acceptance of differences, and most importantly- be proud of who you are.”If you’re wondering why Sophia’s eyebrows are so dark, here’s a secret: they’re tinted. The model got so tired of having to fill in her naturally blonde brows that she tinted them, accidentally turning them black.Fortunately, she was over the moon with the look and now regularly ensures to tint them whenever the blonde starts coming through.“I am not really doing this to show people that they have to like [my unibrow], I am more so doing it to show people that they can get on with their lives by having a preference,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.“I personally think my face looks better this way. Others disagree, and that’s totally cool. I am not trying to get anyone on the unibrow bandwagon. If I like this, just let me like this.”“I want to be sure that I am not defined by the way I look right now. I look at [my unibrow] like it’s winged eyeliner or red lipstick. In five years I might look back and think, ‘that was a cool phase!’ But until people start to accept others for this specific feature on their face, I won’t feel ready to move on from it.”Take a look at Sophia’s bold brows along with some other women who are redefining modern beauty with their body hair.Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for non-stop inspiration delivered fresh to your feed, every day. In a recent Instagram post, blogger Huda Kattan (of the hugely popular site HudaBeauty) posted a video of fellow beauty blogger Farah Dhukai rubbing raw onions all over her eyebrows. “Onion juice has sulphur which speeds up the growth of hair and makes it thicker,” Kattan writes in the caption, recommending those wanting faster-growing brows massage the onion juice onto their brows for 5 minutes, let it dry completely and then wash it off with cold water. Dermatologist Kavita Mariwalla tells Allure that sulphur has been proven to aid in hair growth, although not for brows specifically.
Brows are often overlooked, but beautifully defined brows really can transform your face. Start with a powder brow product or an eyeshadow in a color that is close to your natural brow color. If you have black hair, go with a slightly softer shade like dark ash brown, or a deep brown black. If you are blonde, keep brows lighter but in the same tone as your hair color. Use a slanted brush with the powder, making sure to tap of any excess before applying to the brows. Use short, feathery strokes and brush the hair up to create a strong brow that still frames your face. ...
Last week, when Glossier’s new Boy Brow ($16) showed up at my desk and I brought it home and handed it over to my best friend to try, knowing she had been looking for a new brow product. Boy Brow is available in three shades, blond, brown and black, which might not seem like a huge range, but it’s easy to match one of them to your brow color.
Brows are often overlooked, but beautifully defined brows really can transform your face. The right shape and definition can make you look more polished, balance out your features, and frame your eyes. Brows that are are too thin or uneven aren’t flattering on anyone. A professional brow expert can help you get the right brow shape for your face. Once you have established a shape that you like, you can keep it up on your own by tweezing hairs as they grow back in. Professional quality tweezers are designed to capture even the smallest hairs and are worth the investment. ...
Forget straight hair or full lips — the most obsession-worthy trait in recent years is big, full brows. Thanks to bushy-browed stars like Cara Delevingne, obscure treatments like brow tinting and brow extensions are going mainstream. As someone who plucked out two-thirds of her eyebrows in college, I can happily report that they do grow back eventually and you don’t need a fancy salon treatment to fix your mistake. Beauty brands have perfected a variety of formulas and applicators to help you fake perfect arches during the frustratingly-long regrowth process. Whether yours are thin, light, or just in need of a little oomph, put down the tweezers and check out my favorite products for filling-in and taming brows.
