A charter boat captain was arrested in Florida after getting intoxicated, firing a handgun and refusing to take the frightened passengers to shore in a nightmarish ordeal that lasted more than 17 hours.

While the ship was not damaged, plenty of passengers were shaken up by the sudden tilt, and at least eight people were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
“Cruise ships have an enclosed population, where people are all housed together,” infectious disease expert Amesh A. Adalja tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
"We think the right thing to do is to get everyone home early rather than have guests worry about their health," a spokesman for the Royal Carribean told Yahoo Lifestyle.
