To get some answers, I chatted with Dr. Jessica Shepherd, a gynecologist and women’s health expert. This area has a healthy pH balance of between 4 and 4.5 while most traditional shower washes and bar soaps have a pH between 6 and 10.” She explains that most washes and soaps contain glycerin, which is great as a moisturizer for your face, but because it is sugar-based – and yeast loves sugar – it isn’t ideal for your nether regions. But, I love the rich cologne smell of my partner’s wash! “Traditional body washes, whether they are for men or women are usually the wrong pH and formulated with ingredients that could be potentially irritating for this sensitive area,” Shepherd says. She warns to avoid harsh cleansing ingredients like sulfates, which have high pH values that don’t jive well with a woman’s chemistry. Should men also be thinking about pH balance? The short answer: no. “Men do not have the same issues with pH balance as their genital tracts are shorter and not as exposed to the outside environment.” Can this wash be used on the entire body or just feminine areas?
