On Oscar Sunday, an unexpected item became the “it” accessory of the night — and it wasn’t Nicole Kidman‘s sparkling Harry Winston chandelier earrings or Helen Mirren‘s royal sapphire and diamond collar necklace. Instead, it was Lupita Nyong’o‘s black cat-eye reading glasses. When Nyong’o stepped out onstage to present the Oscar for Best Production Design with Kumail Nanjiani, she added a sleek pair of cat-eye optical frames to accompany her custom Vibranium by Versace gold dress to (we assume) clearly read the teleprompter. For those wondering, Nyong’o’s frames were designed by Andy Wolf, an Austrian designer whose fan base includes model Bella Hadid.Twitter users could not stop raving about Nyong’o’s eyeglasses. Comedian Abbi Crutchfield posted: “Unlike Superman Lupita Nyong’o becomes a hero once she puts ON glasses. #Slay #Oscars.” Another user, Talia, writes: “Lupita in glasses is, hands down, the absolute highlight of this year’s Oscars.” This isn’t the first time Nyong’o has sported eye-catching glasses on an awards stage. In fact, back in 2016, one Twitter user was inspired enough to create an account dedicated to all of the star’s special eyewear moments, appropriately called Lupita’s Glasses. One post from the account reads, “Lasik is shook. Lupita’s glasses are BACK #oscars.”But the Black Panther star was just one of many who sported chic optical frames on Hollywood’s most glamorous night of the year.Big Little Lies star Laura Dern sported her own black frames when presenting the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature while wearing a minimalist gown by Calvin Klein by Appointment. Meryl Streep, who has been wearing glasses on the red carpet for years, wore an oval pair by Alain Mikli with her red Dior dress for the special night. The trend didn’t only include women. Gary Oldman, who took home the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour, wore his signature pair of thick black acetate frames. Jordan Peele, who made history as the first black writer to win Best Original Screenplay, wore a pair of two-toned, rectangular glasses with his crisp white tux. Comedian Dave Chappelle looked sharp wearing a pair of oversize, amber-hued glasses. It’s safe to assume that many (if not all) the glasses worn on Sunday night were for practical purposes, but it also goes to show how glasses can still serve as a stylish accessory, even when wearing a gown or tux — just as long as you have the right pair.Ahead, shop 10 stylish optical frames inspired by the stars, from Nyong’o’s cat-eye version to Oldman’s thick black frames.Read more from Yahoo Lifestyle: • Rainbow pride, mad plaid, and cheeky slogans: 4 top trends from London Fashion Week • The complete NYFW trend guide for fall 2018 • All the prettiest, boldest, and most powerful pantsuits from New York Fashion Week Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for nonstop inspiration delivered fresh to your feed, every day.

Laura Dern embraced the holiday season on the Star Wars: The Last Jedi red carpet.Dern makes her franchise debut as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo in the new film, and she’s fast becoming a favorite Star Wars fixture. During a photo call this week, Dern stood out among the cast in an all-red ensemble among a sea of neutral, bleak winter colors. The star’s head-to-toe look was the ultimate power suit. She managed to look chic, badass, and festive all at once, in a plunging red blazer and matching floor-sweeping scarlet trousers, pairing the look with a diamond choker à la Gigi Hadid. In fact, this look wouldn’t be out of place on Gigi or Bella, but it’s all the more daring and fun on Dern. According to stylist Gabriela Hearst, the look is custom. (Not that that will stop us from trying to re-create it for the company holiday party.)During this fashionable press tour so far, Dern has worn an Alexander McQueen gown, a peekaboo lacy frock, and a leather skirt. As E! Online puts it, “Laura Dern Is Having the Best Time Ever.” Click through the photos above to find other ways that celebs are keeping pantsuit nation alive this season.Read more from Yahoo Lifestyle: Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for nonstop inspiration delivered fresh to your feed, every day.
A common thread among the icons and honorees at Elle’s Women in Hollywood event was facing unwanted advances and crude comments in their careers and as children.
Yes, even Reese Witherspoon has felt judged as a parent. The actress, producer, newly-named Elizabeth Arden brand ambassador and mom of Ava, 17; Deacon, 13; and Tennessee, 4, is fascinated by just how opaque and unreadable kids can be and how hard moms and dads try to seem absolutely perfect.
Someone never sent two-time Oscar nominee Laura Dern that particular memo. Dern attributes her career success to her parents, Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd, and what they taught her about building a body of work, as opposed to chasing flash-in-the-pan, pretty-girl roles.
Yes, the Academy Awards take place Sunday night. But the two days leading up are filled with events: star-studded parties and, in the case of talent agency UTA, a rally benefiting the ACLU.
