When the editors here at Yahoo Canada heard that Cindy Crawford was retiring, none of us could quite figure out how long she’d been modeling – forever, right? The iconic face has been modeling since high school, signing on with Elite Model Management at age 17 after placing second in a Look of the Year contest. Since then, she has graced the covers of every major fashion magazine, appeared in campaigns for Revlon, Pepsi, Guess Jeans and (most recently) Balmain, and has acted in a number of movies. All of these accolades earned her the title of “supermodel” – an elite group of models from the ‘80s and ‘90s that included Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista. Of her official retirement, Crawford says to Hemispheres magazine, “I’m sure I’ll have my picture taken for 10 more years, but not as a model anymore. And that’s OK. I’ve done it. I’ve worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can’t keep reinventing myself. I shouldn’t have to keep proving myself. I don’t want to.“ We couldn’t agree more.
