The singer skipped the Grammys this year, but that didn't keep her from rocking a custom gown meant for the occasion.
In lieu of a traditional NYFW runway show or presentation this season, Zac Posen has opted to launch a dreamy set of imagery for his new spring-summer 2019 collection.
Zac Posen interviews Serena Williams on the Yahoo Lifestyle series "Loud and Clear."
Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all time, but in an interview with fashion designer Zac Posen (a board member of Yahoo Lifestyle’s parent company, Oath) for Yahoo Lifestyle’s “Loud and Clear” video series, Williams shares that there’s something better than winning 23 Grand Slams. “Twenty-three Grand Slams has been amazing,” Williams says. “But I think having my daughter, Olympia, is the best thing that’s happened to me. “It’s been an incredible experience,” Williams says of being a mom. “I started playing tennis when I was 3, and it’s been my whole life. I’ve always been a person that’s never really been a kids kind of person — I’ve always been career-oriented — so I never thought I would say that.” As for what Williams (who is also a board member at Oath) is teaching her baby girl, there are a lot of lessons that Williams’s mom passed on to her that she’s now bestowing on Olympia. “My mom, she just always wanted to make me feel positive and love who I was,” Williams says. Later she adds that she’s dedicated to teaching her daughter “to always be a positive voice.” Three months after giving birth to Olympia, Williams was back on the court competing in matches. “When you win, you’re instantly addicted to it and you want to do it again, and again, and again, and again,” she says. “I never give up,” Williams adds. “I never stop, and I feel like nothing’s going to stop me when I want to do something.” Williams has been playing tennis professionally for decades now, and her routine has changed since her first professional match back in 1995. “When I first started, I had a lot of routines, I had to have on these brand-new socks (actually I still have that), I had to use the same locker, I had to use the same bathroom — it was like I would go through all this list of stuff, and I felt like, this is too much,” she remembers. “Now my routine is to be different, to do something different so I don’t get this repetition in my brain. That way I can play more free, I can think more free, and I can just be more free.” As for the message she wants to make sure that all her fans, followers, and family hear: “I really believe it’s very important to speak to other people and be a mentor to other people and be positive,” she says. “No matter who you are, uplift someone today.”
Is the Red Carpet Now Its Own Form of Entertainment? “Red carpet has become its own entertainment force in itself,” Zac Posen said to Katie Holmes during their shoot for The Hollywood Reporter’s Top 25 Red Carpet Designers issue. “I call it ‘fashiontainment.’” The 34-year-old, who appears on one of four covers with the Dawson’s Creek star, explains that his goal when dressing clients is to empower women to use fashion to get whatever they want creatively in their career. Michael Kors feels similarly. “The dress should make the woman feel like her best self,” the cover star along with longtime muse Blake Lively said of his rule for the red carpet.
It’s no surprise that supermodel turned actress Cara Delevingne is wearing her best threads for the press tour for her first feature film, “Paper Towns.” She particularly shined at the New York premiere in a silver embellished cutout dress by Saint Laurent. The rising star wasn’t the only one who shimmered this week. Katie Holmes was also seen in the Big Apple wearing a metallic silver long-sleeved top paired with pleated leather culottes by Zac Zac Posen. The designer was also represented this week at the dinner he cohosted this week with Yahoo Style for the women of “Pixels.” The film’s star, Michelle Monaghan, rocked a bright red-orange short suit of his making. Katie Holmes has rid herself of Scientology and now she can show some sideboob. Rejoice! For the premiere of her new movie The Woman in Gold, the actress traded her more classic and covered up style for a pink dress with cut outs and armpit cleavage. Perhaps it’s because she might have a new boyfriend in Jaime Foxx or the rest of the world has also “gone clear,” but this Zac Posen frock on Suri’s mother is a lot more fun than basically anything she’s ever worn. Holmes’ hair matched her feisty embellished pink number, puffed up and synthetically held up high making her look straight out of the ‘80s or a Texas housewife. And while Holmes broke the chains of boring fashion that kept her constricted in LBDs, simple sheaths, and faux boho ensembles, her co-star, Helen Mirren, was her typical fabulous self.
