The Tampa Bay Lightning are nearing “unbearable levels of good” for NHL fans.

I say this because while addressing the media on Sunday, Tampa Bay mayor Jane Castor suggested that the Lightning should take things a little easy against the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4 in order to win the Stanley Cup at home in Game 5.

“Here’s what we would like. What we would like is for the Lightning to take it a little bit easy, to give the Canadiens just the smallest break, allow them to win one at home, and then bring it back to the Amalie Arena for the final and the winning of the Stanley Cup," Castor said. "We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but they are playing some amazing, amazing hockey.”

I find it very interesting that the mayor of a city for one of the two teams remaining in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is actively hoping their team loses a game. I get the reasoning behind it, but it still sounds very odd.

Now, if you’re the Canadiens, if this isn’t bulletin board material I don’t know what is. The mayor of Tampa is openly admitting she hopes the team you’re up against toys with you, like a cat plays with a mouse before killing it.

The Lightning currently hold a convincing 3-0 series lead over the Habs, forcing Montreal into the unlikely scenario of having to win four straight games in order to hoist the Stanley Cup.

Unlike Tampa Bay, Montreal’s only option is winning this series on the road in Game 7.
