Think you couldn't love Target more? Well, you're about to: As of today, Target will officially offer a same-day delivery service! Oh, and it gets better. There are no fewer than 65,000 (yes, thousand) items available for the service, including: household, bath, bedding, and kitchen and dining items. Watch out, Amazon!
Imagine, not having to muster-up the energy to stop at the store on the way home from work, and instead, find all your Target essentials waiting at your doorstep upon arrival. Or not needing to run to the store in the midst of party planning to grab that tablecloth you forgot you needed?
“With same-day delivery now available directly within the Target.com experience, we’ve made it even easier for our guests to shop at Target — while still getting the great value, curated product assortment and helpful guest service they’ve come to expect,” said Dawn Block, senior vice president of digital, in a press release.
To make same-day delivery possible, Target will be using one of their recent acquisitions — Shipt. In 2017, Target acquired Shipt for $550 million, when it was just a startup company. Target has been playing a smart game of chess all along.
In a press release from 2017, when Shipt was acquired, John Mulligan, Target’s chief operating officer, explains why Target chose Shipt: "By acquiring Shipt, we’ll be able to take advantage of our network of stores and Shipt’s technology platform and shopper community to quickly offer same-day delivery to millions of our guests."
If you do not have $49 annual Shipt membership through Target, then there will be a $9.99 delivery fee for all same-day delivery purchases. But honestly, with the amount you'll probably be using it? The $49 is well worth it.
