‘I thought it was a mistake on Google!’ Hidden restaurant open overnight in Charlotte

What if I told you there’s a place in Charlotte where you can feast on Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani food until 5 in the morning? That restaurant would be Taste of Asia Halal, the first halal-certified restaurant in North Carolina serving Chinese cuisine and a go-to spot for a diverse range of Asian cuisine, as the name reveals.

“I thought it was a mistake on Google!” CharlotteFive photographer Tonya Russ Price said when she looked up the hours of the restaurant, which is practically hidden underneath a sign for Holy Joe’s Meats & More on Berkeley Place Drive. It shares the space with the grocery store and butcher.

“We were the first to open halal Chinese in North Carolina,” owner Eiadul Islam told CharlotteFive. The restaurant has since expanded to include other Asian cuisines, with plans to open more locations in the Charlotte area, although Islam is still on the hunt for the right spots.

As for the restaurant’s name, Islam said it simply reflects his intentions to convey “a feel of Asia, like Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani, you know? All of Asia,” Islam said.

At Taste of Asia Halal, where the restaurant aims to ensure ”a warm and welcoming atmosphere,” you’ll experience the flavors of Asia through its most popular dishes such as special mixed fried rice, special chili chicken, chicken with broccoli and spring rolls.

“Everything is fresh upon customer order,” Islam said. “We make all the food fresh here.”
