Some hospitals are strict when it comes to employees having tattoos, but one registered nurse is proof that you can have an arm (or two) full of tattoos and still be more than capable at doing your job. And if you were to ask Jordan Miller, he’s confused as to why tattoos would be an issue in the first place.

Miller, from Carrolton, Ohio, is the son of Misti Johnson, a registered nurse who has visible tattoos on her arms. In a Facebook post that has gone viral, Miller wrote that (tattoos or not) Johnson is the best at what she does.

“Talking to my mom tonight (who is a registered nurse) and she was telling me about how strict some hospitals are when it comes to employees having tattoos. I must say I am kind of confused,” Miller captioned alongside a photo of his mother in her uniform, with her sleeves rolled up to reveal artistic tattoo designs.

“I’ve seen my mom pull a lady out of a car before it fills with smoke and she suffocates. I’ve seen her do stitches on an injured person on the side of the road following a car accident. I’ve seen her come home after a 12-hour shift, dead tired after dealing with an abusive patient all day, and get back up and do it again the next day,” he continued.

“She’s come home after holding a baby in her hands and watching it take their last breath. She’s saved a drug addict’s life after overdosing in the hospital bed.”

“Tattoos don’t define the person,” Miller concluded. “My mom has more tattoos than I can count and it has never, ever affected her work ethic. She will wake up at the same time every day and save a life.”

The post resonated with readers across the globe, receiving more than has received more than 112,000 shares and 172,000 reactions.

“Misti Johnson, as a fellow nurse you are a true nurse and carer,” wrote one commenter. “I’ve been nursing for over 30 years in England, and yes, all that time ago I was told no piercings, no colour in your hair, nothing that made you individual. You keep your profession alive in your heart, that is all that matters.”

As for Johnson, she’s more than happy with being known as the “tattooed nurse” — and she gives her blessings to fellow tattooed nurses worldwide.
