Taylor Swift accused of ripping off Beyoncé at the Billboard Music Awards

Back in 2017, members of the Beyhive blasted Taylor Swift over the supposed similarities between her music video for “Look What You Made Me Do” and Beyoncé’s “Formation” video. And now Swift is catching flak from Bey’s fans again, this time over her opening performance at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.

Performing her brand-new single “ME!” on television for the first time, Swift and her duet partner, Panic! At the Disco’s Brendon Urie, were accompanied by a massive, pastel-suited marching band. While the drumline motif was reminiscent of Swift’s whimsical, colorful “ME!” video that premiered last week, and Swift wore a sequined skater dress instead of Beyoncé’s famous hooded college sweatshirt and denim cut-offs, angry Beyoncé diehards still took to Twitter to claim that the Swift’s spectacle was a rip-off Beyoncé’s epic Coachella 2018 performance.

That historic “Beychella” concert, the subject of Beyoncé’s new Homecoming film and live album, memorably opened with an elaborate marching-band procession.

While Swift’s BBMAs performance may have divided the Swifties and Beyhive members, at least there’s one thing everyone could agree on: Swift had the cutest dates at the awards ceremony. Opting to leave her longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn at home, Swift instead brought her Insta-famous cats, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson, to the event, which took place Wednesday at Las Vegas’s Grand Garden Arena.
