Taylor Swift Is Crowned as Spotify's Top Artist of the Year with 26 Billion Streams Worldwide
Swifties across the world are waking up to Taylor Swift taking the number one spot on their Spotify Wrapped list—but that's not the only lead spot she's seized. The pop star/anti-hero/newly anointed Kansas City Chiefs fan has officially been crowned as Spotify's most-streamed artist of the year, beating out other heavy hitters like Bad Bunny (the top streamed artist of the last three years), The Weeknd, and Lana Del Rey.
Since January 1, Taylor has clocked in a jaw-dropping 26.1 billion streams across the globe. She's also claimed multiple spots on other superlative lists released by the streaming service.
The singles “Cruel Summer” from her 2019 album Lover and “Anti-Hero” from her 2022 album Midnights are the sixth and tenth most-streamed songs, respectively. Meanwhile, those same albums have earned their rightful place on the most-streamed album list, with Midnights coming in at second place and Lover at seventh place.
The transparent volume of streams has undoubtedly been bolstered by Taylor's record-breaking worldwide Eras Tour, as well as the release of two re-recordings of her old records, Speak Now and 1989, projects that she has lovingly dubbed as “(Taylor's Version).” Both debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
“I definitely feel more free to create now. And I’m making more albums at a more rapid pace than I ever did before,” Taylor said in an interview published by Variety last year. “I think the more art you create, hopefully the less pressure you put on yourself. It’s just a phase I’m in right now. And everybody’s different. There are people who put an album out every five years and it’s brilliant and that’s the way they work. And I have full respect for that. But I’m happier when I’m making things more often.”
This isn't the first time that the Grammy winner has made streaming history. Back in August, Spotify also revealed that Taylor had officially become the first female artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners.
