Remember when Taylor Swift was "cancelled" after she, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West feuded in 2016 and Kim dropped a bunch of Snapchat transcription receipts?

If your answer is "wait, no", then (1) we are both proud and envious of you for somehow sidestepping it, and (2) please read this explanation of the Taylor Swift/Kim Kardashian #KimExposedTaylorParty thing, and then come back!

All good? Okay, great! Now that three years have passed since that dumpster fire, Taylor is on the September cover of Vogue speaking out about how she felt when people called her "cancelled" and how it really did change her life forever.

"A mass public shaming, with millions of people saying you are quote-unquote cancelled, is a very isolating experience," she told the mag. "I don’t think there are that many people who can actually understand what it’s like to have millions of people hate you very loudly. When you say someone is cancelled, it’s not a TV show.

"It’s a human being. You’re sending mass amounts of messaging to this person to either shut up, disappear, or it could also be perceived as, Kill yourself."

After she waded through the mess (and disappeared for a while and put out Reputation, uncharacteristically giving zero interviews for it), Taylor said she emerged a changed woman who realised she needed to Marie Kondo TF out of her life.

"I realised I needed to restructure my life because it felt completely out of control. I knew immediately I needed to make music about it because I knew it was the only way I could survive it. It was the only way I could preserve my mental health and also tell the story of what it’s like to go through something so humiliating."

Fast-forward to now, and with her new album Lover’s release date coming up, it looks like she’s done just that.
