Video of teen asking the wrong girl to prom goes viral

A Nevada teen earned his 15 minutes of social media fame after his friend captured a video of him asking the wrong girl to prom, and it later went viral on Twitter.

Austin Mousa, 17, is a junior at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nev. who already knew exactly who he wanted to bring to the school’s upcoming prom. But when he set out to execute the promposal that he had planned with a box of donuts and his friend, Johnny Pashales, by his side to capture the moment, it didn’t go quite as he expected. Instead, Mousa quickly realized that he wasn’t sure where his hopeful date, Hannah Maslak, lived and surprised another girl by arriving at her door.

“As we walked up to the house, I told [Pashales] to take out his phone and video the whole thing. As I knocked on the door, the girl that opened it was not Hannah,” Mousa tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “At first, I thought it was her cousin or friend, but then quickly realized that we went to the wrong house.”

In an attempt to capture what was supposed to be a successful promposal, Pashales caught the fail on video, which was later posted to Mousa’s Twitter and has since been viewed over 2 million times.

“Oh my gosh,” the girl who answers the door is heard saying, before Mousa turns around to accuse his friend of picking the wrong house.

“Johnny was dying laughing, while I felt embarrassed and shocked at what had happened,” Mousa explains. “In the moment, things were very awkward and embarrassing for everyone in the situation, but I had to realize that it was a funny, harmless mistake.”

Still, Mousa assures that he apologized to the girl, who happens to also be a junior at Coronado High School, and explained how horrible he felt. Moments later, he showed up at the correct house to do it all over again — successfully, this time.

“When I went to Hannah’s house to ask her, Johnny was recording again, and right when she opened the door, I told her what happened,” he says. “She was embarrassed for me.”

So much so, that Maslak decided to make it right with the prior girl by bringing her one of the donuts.

Mousa’s friends later encouraged the teen to post the fail video to Twitter after finding it so hilarious themselves. Mousa asked the girl, who asked to remain anonymous, for her permission to do so. In the end, he got an “absolutely crazy” reaction from people on Twitter, in addition to having an amazing prom night with Maslak.
