Two years ago, Esbeidy Barrera decided she was fed up with her unhealthy lifestyle.

Admitting to indulging a bit too often and not being active, she decided it was time to lose a few pounds. Counting her low self esteem as the motivator to get back to better health, Barrera decided to ditch the diet lifestyle to become more cautious and cognizant of how she is fuelling her body. Now, after losing an impressive 80 lbs., she’s inspiring others to do the same through her Instagram page.

“I’ve never really focused much on upper body, mostly lower body workouts but I’m glad I’m seeing results. So hard to tighten loose skin but glad that I’m getting there slowly. And although I shouldn’t let a number on a scale determine my hard work and happiness, I’m so excited to reach my goal,” writes Barrera.

Listing eating healthier, whole foods and working out regularly as her biggest weight loss components, Barrera is on track to reach her goal of losing 88 lbs.

“I still don’t know how I’m still alive from working out twice a day (if work doesn’t get in the way), waking up at 5 a.m. to go to the gym, be at school at 8 a.m. and then go to work until 11 p.m. But I have goals to reach,” she wrote.

Her account has turned into a motivation page for followers of all ages, regardless of whether they are athletes or just getting started on their fitness journey.

“This is amazing. I am beyond proud. You have achieved more than most 19-year-olds,” wrote one follower.

“Just stalked your pictures and showed them to my mom. She’s so blown away by you! Keep kicking butt, girl! You’re amazing!” commented another.

The 19-year-old admits that while her page is inspirational, she doesn’t wake up every day with endless inspiration to hit the gym. When those moments of minimal motivation hit, she reminds herself of her goal, which has been one of her greatest tools in her weight loss.

“I didn’t feel like waking up at 5 a.m, to head to the gym and then I reminded myself why I’m doing this,” writes Barrera.

While Instagram sometimes gets a bad reputation due to serious FOMO and #bodygoals, stories like Barrera’s can be the perfect reminder of what hard work and dedication can do for one’s health.
