The Very Cool Reason Scarlett Johansson Doesn’t Work With a Stylist

In an industry rife with celebrity stylists behind just about every actor’s red-carpet appearance, here’s a major newflash: Scarlett Johansson doesn’t work with one.

She’s one of the biggest names — alongside Blake Lively — opting to pick out her own outfits. So yes, that flowery Azzedine Alaïa gown she wore to the Oscars? All her own doing. Same goes for the Alaïa sequined minidress she paired with a feathered black skirt for her film’s Paris premiere.

“I’m a grownup who dresses herself,” Johansson tells Yahoo Style.

She has nothing against industry pros who get paid to outfit her peers. But Johansson, now promoting her futuristic existential drama Ghost in the Shell, just chooses to do things herself. During a Saturday press day, she wore relaxed black pants, a matching jacket and low heels.

“I just feel better when I wear my own clothes,” she says. “I worked with incredible stylists in the past, but I never feel like I’m wearing something I would pick out myself. It’s somebody else’s awesome version of what I look good in. That’s great for a photo shoot. But I’m not in a photo shoot. I’m just being me.”
