There's a valid reason why the Queen didn't post a birthday shout out to Meghan this year

Last week saw Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, celebrate her 41st birthday – something that resulted in actor Tyler Perry sharing a sweet and poignant tribute to his friend, who he said has survived things that would have 'broken' other people.

Meghan also received, as is now tradition, a birthday shout out from both Prince William and Kate Middleton over on their Twitter and Instagram accounts, along with well wishes from Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall's account. However, the Queen's social media accounts (which have the handle @theroyalfamily on IG and @royalfamily on Twitter) remained noticeably quiet.

Whilst we're sure that Her Majesty reached out to Meghan in private, given the drama that has gone down between the Sussexes and the still-working senior members of the family, many are speculating as to whether this 'snub' means more fall outs have occurred behind the scenes.

However, one royal expert has now stepped in to clarify why the Queen didn't wish Meghan a happy birthday on socials – and the reason sounds perfectly valid (and drama-free).

Royal reporter Richard Palmer, who writes for the Daily Express, said that the Queen and her social media accounts were merely following a new protocol, which sees public tributes only posted for non-working members of the family when it is an especially significant birthday.

"It is thought the Queen congratulated Meghan privately yesterday but her official website neglected to mention her birthday after deciding it will only mark the birthdays of non-working members of the family when they end in a zero," explained Palmer – something which would make sense, seeing as Meghan turned 41 this year.

Elsewhere, the Sussexes are continuing on with their legal battle over a lack of what they see as adequate security being easily available to them during their visits to the UK. Recent reports show Prince Harry has launched a further lawsuit against the Home Office and the Metropolitan Police.

Here's hoping it's all resolved soon and that the royal pair can head on over for a visit, along with their two adorable children, Archie and Lilibeth (who was named in honour of the Queen).
