These Knitted Mermaid Tails Will Make You Rethink Your Onesie

Don’t worry; they come in adult sizes, too. [Photo: CassJamesDesigns]

We’re being spoilt this winter. First we were introduced to the kotatsu – the dreamy table, heater and blanket combo that all the cool Japanese kids own. And now we’re welcoming these knitted mermaid tails with open arms.

Forget the onesie, the knitted mermaid tail is the new cosy winter garment of choice. And it’s amazing. It’s so snug that you’ll probably wriggle into it and never remerge.

The brainchild of Melanie Campbell, the crocheted tails are exactly what they sound like; giant knitted mermaid tails that you can hibernate it – just like a stylised sleeping bag. A sleeping bag that you can spend every moment spent on your sofa incased in, feeling like Ariel, glass of red in hand.

We would tell you to ask for one for Christmas, but the blankets have been so popular on Campbell’s CassJamesDesigns Etsy shop that Campbell’s had to pause on taking orders for the next eight weeks. Sob. Probably for the best as at $200 (around £132) they’re slightly on the pricey side, but considering the amount of work that goes into making one we reckon they’re worth it.

Campbell is keeping her fans updated via her Facebook page and promises that she’ll start taking orders again soon. So, come spring, you could be chilling out in your very own mermaid blanket.
