Swaddling, white noise machines, scented toys… there’s no end to the tricks and tips parents will try to lull a crying baby back to sleep. But one Finnish mom claims to have found the cure to sleepless nights: A self-rocking mattress.

It might sound a little space-agey, but CEO and Founder of Familings Mattress, Hannah Sissala, swears this mattress will allow parents to finally rest easy.

“We slept badly, our baby cried for hours every night,” Sissala says in a video describing her invention. “We found no product that would have helped so I decided to invent a solution.”

She explains that before using the mattress, her son would only take naps for about 10 minutes and would wake up crying, tired and stressed out. But after using the mattress, he was able to sleep for around 45 minutes at a time and would wake up with a smile on his face.

While 45 minutes of peace may not sound like much, for Sissala, it was a relief.

One of Sissala’s other main concerns with the rocking mattress was ensuring it was safe. She explains that the mattress was made to be breathable so that even if the baby tips over onto their tummy, there’s no risk of suffocation.

Sissala explains that the mattress is meant to serve as a relief to parents until the baby is old enough to begin sleep training.

“My advice is that whatever helps your family to feel better is worth trying and taking into use. Parents can’t choose how well their baby sleeps. My hope is that even families whose baby has trouble falling asleep can be happy and enjoy good interaction with their baby.”

The mattress currently retails online for €490 (approximately $715 CAD).
