Hum na Sutli is a small town in Croatia with a population of just 5,000, but is potentially the first place in the world to introduce a special breastfeeding park bench.
It’s a bench especially for mums who wish to sit and feed their babies in a public place - and somewhere that’s clean, comfortable and welcoming too.
It features a changing table with a padded mat, and even a roof to provide shelter (or shade for when the sun is out).
The bench exists thanks to Croatian breastfeeding support group HUGPD, and the funds it got from its local council to create it.
It’s easy to picture similar benches popping up in the UK, and especially since even in this day and age new mums still face discrimination for feeding their kids in public, this could be a great way of spreading the message that they’re welcome to do so wherever they please.
They could be handy for bottle-feeding mums and dads, too.
But on the other hand, mums should have the right to feel comfortable to breastfeed wherever they please - whether a special bench is available or not.
