TikToker baffles viewers with tour of her 100-square-foot Paris apartment: ‘[Rent] should be $20 a month’

An American living in Paris has TikTokers wondering how it’s possible to live in a 100-square-foot apartment.

The woman, who goes by the username @shump_, has seemingly lived in Paris since at least 2021. Her feed is full of observations about her life in the city — where she works as an au pair — but one clip, about her apartment, drew an especially big wave of attention.

Her video, which now has over 3 million views, shows exactly how she makes her tiny space work.

“It’s small but i LOVE it,” @shump_ captioned her post.

It’s just the latest TikTok in a long line of unusual apartment tours. In one, a TikToker showed how he has transformed his 500-square-foot apartment into a “smart house.” In another, a user showed off one New York apartment with a “nauseating” floor plan.

In her clip, @shump_ explains that her space is nine square meters, which is roughly 97 square feet. Then she starts her tour.

The TikTok begins at the sink, which is directly in front of @shump_’s door. To the left of that is the kitchen area, which features a kettle, a fridge and what appears to be a small induction stove.

Next to that is the closet, which backs up directly to @shump_’s bed. Her bed takes up almost the entirety of one wall.

The TikToker then shows her “little desk,” which looks out over a park and, in the distance, the Eiffel Tower.

“You can see it better in the winter,” she adds.

Her final wall is dedicated to the toilet and the shower, which sets behind a small door and doubles as a storage space for her suitcase.

TikTok commenters had a wide range of reactions to the tour. Some were simply impressed by how @shump_ utilized her space, while others couldn’t believe she lived there.

“This apartment should be $20 a month,” one user wrote.

“This tiny space makes me anxious,” another added.

“I love what you did with the space!” another wrote. “It’s small but not very many people say that they can see the Eiffel Tower from their window.”
