A TikToker’s relationship with a homeless man in California has gone viral for the heartwarming interactions they have shared over several weeks.
For months, Akram Mohsin, a gas station worker in Fresno, has been sharing clips of his exchanges with random customers, some of whom are homeless. In turn, his TikTok followers have been sending him money via CashApp to help those very people.
One of those fortunate recipients of that generosity was Salvador Tafi Saha Jr. On Dec. 12, 2020, Mohsin posted a video in which Saha, a father of two girls, attempts to buy meal with the money he has left: just a little over $5.
“Yes man, it’s my last $5.61,” Saha tells Mohsin when asked if that’s all he has.
Saha then tells the TikToker that he’s trying to buy some food and Black & Mild cigars before going out to get a new I.D. Upon hearing the man’s predicament, Mohsin, who had earlier received a $100 donation from a follower, shares some news.
“How about this?” he tells Saha. “You got $100. Get whatever you want to eat, and I’ll give you some cash for your I.D.”
Saha, seemingly stunned, immediately thanks Mohsin.
“God is good,” he tells Mohsin. “I’ve been praying a lot. Thank you, man. I didn’t know about you. I just … found out about you. You’re a good man, dude. You’re a good man. God bless you.”
In a follow-up TikTok that was posted five days later, Saha returns to Mohsin’s store with his I.D. in hand, thanking him for his kindness.
“I told you, if it wasn’t for you, you helped me a lot,” Saha tells him. “Thank you, man, [from] the bottom of my heart.”
In another TikTok, Saha, who is slowly trying to leave his homeless life behind, shares his progress — he gets a phone, in addition to surprisingly receiving more money from Mohsin.
“I don’t deserve it,” he says of the extra $200 Mohsin handed him.
But perhaps the most heartwarming interaction between the two occurs in a TikTok Mohsin posted on Dec. 28. In it, Saha is at Mohsin’s store holding two signs: one that says “Will work 4 glasses” and the other that says “Clean Windows $1.”
“I can’t see, but thanks to you, if it wasn’t for you, man, I love you a lot, dude,” Saha tells Mohsin tearfully. “You kept me on the right track.”
When Saha then tells Mohsin he made $11 and that a new pair of glasses at Walmart costs $150, Mohsin gives him $500 and tells him to go get a room and his glasses. Saha instantly breaks down.
“I am tomorrow,” he tells the TikToker. “I’m going to get my glasses [sic] … Oh my God.”
That moment has since been viewed over 17.5 million times on TikTok. Many users couldn’t help but praise Mohsin for his compassion.
“You gave him more than just better vision for the future, but vision for a better future,” one person wrote.
“So sweet thank you for helping these people,” another added.
“Teared up bro, this is what good people do,” a third commented.
In a 2020 interview with local station KSEE, Mohsin, who now has more than 3 million followers on TikTok, said that he takes pride in making a difference in people’s lives.
“It’s a blessing to [the customers],” he said. “I’m happy to be the middle man between it all. It’s just really good and nice to see people engaging in that kind of stuff.”
