Millions of viewers start their morning off with Today show coanchor Hoda Kotb. With cohost Jenna Bush Hager by her side, the 56-year-old speaks about everything and anything on the NBC daytime show. As it turns out, when Hoda's off air, she’s also making people’s day a little brighter by just being herself.

In an Instagram from the account Overheard Celebs, the journalist's incredible act of kindness was shared by @anniegilbs. The woman explained in the post that before her friend died from breast cancer in March 2019, Hoda sent her a sweet video message that “meant the world” because “Hoda [is] a breast cancer survivor herself.”

But the story doesn’t end there. Three weeks after her friend died, the woman crossed paths with Hoda in a nail salon. While trying to personally thank her for making the video, the Today show star asked how her friend was doing.

"I burst into tears," she wrote. "Before I knew it, she was hugging me as if I was a long lost friend she just reunited with. I thanked her for her empathy."

Before parting ways, Hoda paid for the woman's manicure without her knowing. “What that meant to me — not just to me, but everyone who lost our dear friend — is impossible to put into words,” she said.

What’s more, Hoda recalled the moment on Today, adding that she wanted to help her in any way she could. "I remember being in that nail salon with her, and you feel like when someone's in pain, you want to do something,” she said. “I didn't know what to do to help, but she was so sweet. What a sweet person."

In 2007, Hoda was diagnosed with breast cancer after lumps were found during a routine exam. She opted to have a mastectomy instead of going through chemotherapy. Over the past decade, Hoda has openly shared her story, especially in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Hoda's fans showed an outpour of love for the coanchor after they read the touching story.

“I’m crying! I love you Hoda! A genuine and kind soul! We need more Hodas in the world! 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️,” one person wrote. “@hodakotb is a class act!! ❤️,” another added. “I have no doubt she is just a warm and sweet IRL as she comes across every morning on my tv,” a different person said. “@hodakotb is a national treasure. 💕,” a follower commented.

Hoda truly knows how to make a person, even a stranger, feel special.
